Mr. Mingju DAI brief introduction

Mr. Mingju DAI was born in 1950. He worked as mounting specialist in Shenyang Imperial Palace over 40 years. He is famous for outstanding mounting skills in Shenyang even Liaoning Province. He inherits and develops mounting skills from his father Mr. Lubo DAI (1904~1974). He started to learn mounting skills when he was a young child. With father’s training, he had great inertest in painting mounting.

Mr. Mingju DAI is a mounting master, during the time he worked for Shenyang Imperial Palace, he was in charge of repairing cultural relic old paintings that were buried under earth over thousands years. With outstanding skills and many years’ work experience, he took all responsibilities and completed this high risk job successfully.

Mr. DAI always follows Chinese traditional way to mount paintings. With half decade’s practice and development, he still believes that machine mounting never can replace handmade mounting because mounting is a kind of art work, which requires professional skills with art creation. This skill is required especially in valuable Chinese ancient paintings.

Shenyang Imperial Palace collected lots of ancient paintings, books and calligraphy from Ming Dynasty. Some articles were damaged because of improperly stored for over 300 years. Mr. DAI has successfully repaired and remounted thousands of ancient paintings and books.

Mr. DAI was invited as a guest professor by Jilin Art College in 2005. He taught students what he learned from many years work experience and guided students how to improve in practical job.

Mr. DAI published many academic documents on Chinese traditional paintings repairing and mounting in recent years. In 1997, his essay “How to mount and store ancient paintings” issued by China’s Museums Association (Issue 2), and “Traditional skill on how to mount Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy” issued by Chinese Cultural Relic Communication (Issue 3). In 2005, he wrote articles on the topic of ancient paintings and books repairing and mounting for Shenyang Imperial Palace Business Training and Shenyang Imperial Palace Chrestomathy.

Mr. DAI has thousands of mounting products for famous current painters and calligraphers. For example, he mounted three paintings from famous painter Mr. Qiming WU, “Hong Kong Handover 1997”, “The Statue of Mr. Jianhua DONG”, “the Giant of the Century”. These paintings are presented as gifts to government leaders. In 1992, Mr. DAI won the First Prize of National Paintings and Books Mounting Competition.

With many years’ research and hard-working, Mr. Mingju DAI is regarded as one of the best mounting and repairing artists in China.

WGT Art Galley

WGT Art Gallery was established by Mr. Lubo DAI in 1928. Experienced over 80 years developing history, WGT now became a symbol of Chinese traditional paintings and calligraphy arts, which means quality, satisfaction and reputation.

Mr. Lobo DAI opened WGT Art Gallery in Gongchashe Lane, near Middle Street of Shenyang city when he was only 17 years old. In 1920s, there were few mounting specialists in the fields, only a few mounting technician worked for museums and art galleries. Mr. Lobo DAI mounted lots of art works for social celebrities, such as Yuquan Sun, Dongchuan XING, Changrong GAO, Tieheng ZHOU, Jingshi LIAO, Wei WU, Yanyi SHEN, Guangyuan LI, ect. He was rewarded highly for his professional skills.

Mr. Lobo DAI was appointed to a mounting specialist position by Shenyang Imperial Palace in 1957. In the following years, Mr. DAI concentrated on mounting research and repaired and saved over thousand of old ancient relics. He devoted all his life to mounting career and was awarded as mounting master by people.

Mr. Lobo DAI not only left lots of outstanding art works for us, but also trained a successful mounting specialist---his son, Mr. Mingju DAI. Now, Mr. Mingju DAI has inherited his father’s career and engages in Chinese traditional paintings mounting.
